Ocean Shores led county with 50 percent turnout for election

Results certified; 34.7 percent turnout considered better than expected

Ocean Shores had the highest precentage of voters in Grays Harbor County — 50 percent — cast ballots in the November general election.

Grays Harbor County election officials certified general election results Tuesday with several races ending up very close, but none close enough to trigger a recount, said Grays Harbor County Auditor Chris Thomas.

Voter turnout was 34.7, higher than expected in the off-year election, Thomas said. Of the 41,522 ballots mailed out, 14,421 were returned. Some local areas had a much higher participation rate such as Ocean Shores, Cosmopolis at 45 percent and Montesano at 41 percent, which all had city council races on the ballot.

There were three especially close local races: Aberdeen Council Ward 5, Alan Richrod and Robert Jerrick Rodgers, 73 to 75 votes respectively; Cosmopolis Position 5, Richard Kellar and Dale Andrews, 198 to 213; and Fire District 17 Position 1, Calvin Pierce III and Bruce I. Brown, 43 to 42. None of close races where within 0.005 percent, which would have required a recount.
