July 5 Beach Cleanup
Volunteers are needed to help with the annual effort to clean beaches during and after the Fourth of July fireworks festivities. Larry Comparone is coordinating the effort this year, and the city is supplying the bags.
On July 5, volunteers are asked to go onto the beach and spend some time collecting refuse that is left behind. Bags will be available starting at 8 a.m. that morning at the Chance a la Mer beach approach. Interpretive Center activities
The Coastal Interpretive Center will be hosting a Saturday Activities Program for the first Saturday of the month through September. On July 7, build a recycled plastics planter with a real plant provided. No charge, and activity starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m. Located in the Beachcomber Room at the Coastal Interpretive Center, 1033 Catala Ave SE, Ocean Shores.
On Aug. 4, make your own aquarium, and on Sept. 1 build a mini Bigfoot in a box.
Interpretive Center Car Wash
The Coastal Interpretive Center also will hold a fund-raising car wash on Saturday, July 7 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the parking lot at the Bank of Pacific, across from the Ocean Shores Convention Center.
Hydrant flushing in July
The Ocean Shores Water Department will be flushing fire hydrants in the southeastern areas of the city in July. Work will be conducted from Wakina Loop SE to Hassalo Ave. SE on July 10-11, and from Ocean Lake Way to Cape Alava St. SE on July 24-25. It is common for flushing activities to stir up sediment in the water lines surrounding the work areas. The city recommends you do not use hot water during the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. on the days shown. If you experience discoloration of your water, run the COLD water tap for a few minutes until it clears. If you must use hot water during flushing operations, the city strongly recommends flushing your hot water tank after our operations are complete. PAWS Dinner/Auction
The North Beach PAWS annual fundraising Dinner & Auction will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 at the Ocean Shores Convention Center. Organizers are looking for donations of items for the Live Auction part of the event. Contact 360-589-2570 for more information.
