On the Beach: Where to get fit for spring

On the Beach column by Daniela Werner

It’s April and that means its time for my “Spring into Fitness” edition.

There are so many fitness choices available in the North Beach area. Whether you are looking for a group activity, personal training or just a place to meet others and share in a fitness journey.

One choice is Women in Motion. This a “members only” women’s organization where associates have access to the workout facility 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Monthly fee is $35, due the first of each month. The “Women in Motion” site is also a Silver Sneakers approved facility. Women with Silver Sneakers cards pay no fees; their insurance covers the cost of their workouts. They will offer two open house events (Saturday, April 29, from 2-6 p.m.; and again Saturday, May 6, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) for any women interested in getting fit or staying fit. Located at 897 Minard, across from Day’s Inn. For questions contact Virginia Schuster at (360) 589-9116.

Rusty Anchor Fitness in Seabrook is offering a series of Bootcamps for the month of April. Saturdays 9-10 am adults, 12-1 all ages, 4:30-5:30 kids. Rain or shine. $20 per person. Located at 21 Seabrook Ave Pacific Beach, Washington. Call (360) 888-9424 for more information.

Don’t forget Buck’s Bikes offers Saturday morning trail bike rides beginning at Seabrook at 8 a.m. in April and has just began surfboard and SUP rentals. Come on out, the water’s fine, they invite.

Over in Oyhut Bay in Ocean Shores, a new Wellness Center opens this month. This brand-new space located upstairs in the new retail building next to the Sales Office offers a wide variety of choices. Low impact movement class is offered at 9:30 a.m. on both Tuesdays and Thursdays. And again, offered on Wednesdays at 2 p.m. Basic Yoga is available each Saturday at 10 a.m. Two special Mindfulness workshops will be offered this April by Barbie Paget. Wednesday, April 19 at 6 p.m. enjoy learning about mindful movement and meditation. $10 fee for the evening class. On Friday April 21, take a Mindful Walking group hour stroll and enjoy the scenery and insight.

Looking for a low impact seated fitness choice?

On Tuesday and Thursday mornings, join the folks at Brookdale for a 10:30-11:30 class adaptable to many levels. This class is open to the public and cost is just $4.

On April 15 at 6 p.m. join Ocean Shores Animal Hospital Staff and doggies for a walk along the Ocean Shores Woof-a-Thon route! Look for the pet-crazy folks at North Bay Park, Albatross St. NE at Chance A La Mer NE.

Have you ever wanted to become more familiar with the fitness equipment at the Ocean Shores Community Club?

The Club will host a fitness equipment training class in the Fitness Room on Wednesday, May 10, from 11 a.m. to noon. The class will provide members equipment and instruction on how to properly and safely use the equipment. Members must sign-up at the front desk at the Club. Cost: $5 per person.

Here’s a fun way to join others in a healthy way to celebrate Earth Day — a virtual race. Virtual races are just like traditional races with a shirt, medal, bib, community and fun, but you can run, walk or hike your race wherever you want with whomever you want. Even on a treadmill! Racers report their time and then receive a medal for completing the race.

Registration will be open through April 23, 2017. Earth Day Virtual 5K/10K (4/22/17) Sign up at: https://vr.redpodium.com/earth-17

However you choose to “Spring” into fitness, don’t forget my favorite, a nice walk “On the Beach.”
