On the Beach: We’re ready for some ‘Sea … Hawks!’

On the Beach column by Daniela Werner

SEA … HAWKS!

You can be anywhere. Grocery store. Crowded parking lot. Beach. And if you yell out “SEA,” more than likely someone will reply with a resounding “HAWK.”

We love our sports. Being a sports fan is universal. It doesn’t discriminate against age, race, religion or creed. You can be a Seahawks fan regardless of your socioeconomic status. It’s a common thread that weaves us together, cheering for the same team.

All throughout history we have rallied around our sports teams. During wars and depression, we have used sports teams to distract us. We have celebrated, shared sorrow and dreamed along with our teams.

Seattle fans are known worldwide for the enthusiasm they show for their beloved Hawks. The Seahawks preseason has begun with an impressive win over the Chargers. In a few days, Ocean Shores gets to kick off the season with a party that only Seahawks fans could throw. The weekend of Aug. 17- 20, Ocean Shores will become even more blue and green than it already is.

The Mighty Alliance is bringing in so many guests and features this year. Here’s a glimpse: On Thursday, Oyhut Bay Tailgate Party mingling with the likes of Joe Tafoya, Norm Johnson and Wilson the Pony. Music, karaoke, vendors, and family activities from 5-10 p.m.

On Friday, get up early and have coffee with the Seahawks players’ Mammas at the 12th Woman stand from 10-11 a.m. The Convention Center kicks off Friday with vendors and celebrities beginning at 10 a.m. There’s a chance to support the North Beach Hyak Cheerleaders by attending a spaghetti dinner for just $8 Friday evening. All proceeds will be donated to the hosting cheerleaders.

Saturday starts with a fun run at 9. You can register in front of Sharky’s. The Seahawks Fan Fest Parade will begin at 10 a.m. Look for celebrities riding in classic cars enjoying the fans as much as we enjoy them. There will be Mr. and Mrs. Seahawk, Painted Hawk, Big Lo, and more. Then it’s time for the raising of the 12th Man Flag at the Convention Center. Mamma Lynch will be back this year. You can play golf in the tournament at the Ocean Shores Golf Course, or Glow Bowl with the Seahawks Mamas — Mamma Lockette, Thomas, Lynch, Bennett and more will be on hand.

Again, great music and activity at the Convention Center. Saturday evening brings the highlight for many fans. The Superbowl 40 Seahawks are being honored in a dinner at the QBRC. There’s also a Pub Crawl offered by Waves of Bling and Ride the Wave Tours owner June Bongirno.

After enjoying the festivities of Saturday, enjoy a Seahawks themed fireworks show! Most of the activities are free. Some are ticketed and all the information can be found at the Mighty Alliance Facebook page.

Get your Seahawks gear ready, you’re going to need it. SEAHAWKS!
