On the Beach: Time for Halloween tricks, treats

The sun may be shining still on the beach, but fall is certainly in the air. It’s not too early to create those Halloween costumes and plan your celebrations.

Make the drive out to Seabrook for the second annual Great Pumpkin carving contest Oct. 21. Watch three professional carvers — Eric Hawley, Wade Lapp, and Jonathan Barwood — carve pumpkins of 200 pounds and more while competing for your votes! Dollar voting tickets to benefit Coastal Harvest. Voting will end at 5 p.m.

There’s also a Family Carving Competition; Sign up in the Cottage Rentals office before Saturday or at the Pumpkin tent next to Rusty Anchor Fitness on Saturday and join in the family pumpkin carving activity.

On Saturday Oct. 28, starting at 4 p.m, all Seabrook Town merchants and many homes throughout town will have treats for kids in costume! Look for the glittery pumpkin to be displayed on the house door, these are the participating homes. Adult party Oct. 27, 8-11 p.m., 21-and over costume party with DJ, karaoke, dancing and drinks, photo booth, costume contest at Seabrook Town Hall.

Looking for some grown up fun? The Ocean Beach Roasters will welcome Santa Digna Winery out of Chile on Oct. 19, with a four-course pairing menu for only $40 and are offering discounted bottles to take home to all who attend. Make your reservations today!

Want to get dressed up for the Holidays and enjoy an elegant evening? “An Autumn Affair” pairs select wine choices from Two Mountain Winery that compliment an upscale menu created by Chef Doug Graybeal. Entertainment special guest “Just Plain Darin.” Call the Oyhut Bay Bistro at (360) 940-7138 for reservations. Tickets $75 per person.

A fall tradition of course is watching the Wizard of Oz — and you can take the family to the 7th Street Theater, Oct. 21 at 7:30 and Oct. 22 at 2. Tickets are $6 for all ages. Tickets are available at Crown Drug, Harbor Drug, City Drug, online, and at the door 30 minutes before the show.

A new event this year for the beach, on Oct. 28 at Oyhut Bay, is the Saturday Spooktacular Halloween, all day fun beginning at 9 a.m. There is a Kid’s Spooktacular Yoga Class at the Wellness Activity Center, $5 at 10 a.m. Adult Yoga-Wellness Activity Center, $10. Get your costumes ready and join other ghosts and goblins from 1-4 p.m. for Trunk or Treat in the Village Square. Join our businesses, local community members and residents in a fun, safe afternoon event. Games, decorations and of course Halloween Treats! Halloween Dance Workshops beginning at 1 p.m. for different youth age groups each hour, $10. At 4 p.m., enjoy a fun “Not So Spooky Story Time” at Riptide Coffee Co. For the adults, beginning at 8 p,m, enjoy a Spooktacular “Speak Easy” in the Loft Martini and Wine Bar. A Prohibition themed event. Costume contest, drink specials and of course the gin will flow.

How about sharing some Halloween brew with the pirates at the Pirates Cove in Ocean Shores? Saturday Oct. 28th All “Ghouls & Gals,” “Witches & Warlocks,” “Ghosts & Spirits” and just us regular folk are invited to gather at the Pirates Cove Pub & Grill to welcome in “The Season of The Witch.” Music supplied by Unexpected Soul.

A long-standing favorite in Ocean Shores. On Oct. 31 at Ocean Shores Convention Center — Trick or treating indoors from 6-8 p.m., hosted by The Ocean Shores Fire Department.

You know the biggest bash of the year for adults is at the Quinault Beach Resort and Casino. The party starts at 9 p.m. on Oct. 28 at the Nightmare Ball, where your costume could win you cash prizes. Wherever you choose to spend Halloween celebrating, there are many Spooktacular choices “On the Beach!”
