On the Beach: Sunny summer days

On the Beach column by Daniela Werner.

Summer in Ocean Shores. It’s Shining! School has been out of session for a month, but summer is full speed ahead. Our little beach town has been full of smiling faces, busy families, and new events.

The Fourth of July has come and gone. And what a day it was. The beaches were jam-packed, the businesses bustling, the sun has been shining for weeks! The Sunshine raises serotonin levels, your body’s own “happy” hormone. The Sunshine in combination with outdoor exercise can lesson depression by releasing endorphins. There are other health benefits as well. Experts say going outside in the sunshine for about 10 minutes will give you 10,000 IU of vitamin D which is vital for healthy bones, teeth, and immune system.

Over the weekend in the sunshine, Ocean Shores enjoyed its first professional sporting event with the AVP Beach Volleyball Event brought in by Beach Blast and held at Oyhut Bay. It was an exciting weekend that introduced Ocean Shores to a whole new demographic of visitors from Texas, Canada, California and more.

There is a little bit of everything to get you outside next weekend:

This will be to benefit Grays Harbor Youth Athletics. The lineup of coaches and celebrities for both the golf tournament and the dinner/auction is amazing including Dick Vermeil. The event is organized by Jeremy McMillan of Grays Harbor Football and Dan La Duc former strength and conditioning coach for the Seattle Seahawks. For information on tickets, or to have your child attend the free camp, stop in Waves of Bling on Point Brown and see June Bongirno.
