Food Bank in search of two new board members

Skills needed in information technology, law, community leadership, and grant writing

The Ocean Shores Food Bank is seeking new board members.

The all-volunteer, non-profit organization is supported by individuals, local businesses, and community organizations to fulfill its mission: “So no one in our community goes hungry.”

To help understand the scope of the mission, here are some statistics through July 2017:

• Nearly 60 volunteers distributed 53 tons of food to an average of 352 households per month, including both regular distributions and emergency food.

• Where does this food come from? Hunger relief agencies provided 34 tons of food; individual donations, community events and local organizations provided 7 tons; and generous cash donations enabled us to purchase 12 tons of food.

The Food Bank is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors that provides guidance and direction. The board’s responsibilities include long-term planning, program oversight, and the development of organizational policy. Also included is monitoring the fiscal and legal health of the organization, raising funds, assisting with marketing and public relations, selecting and evaluating the executive director.

At this time, the Food Bank is recruiting new board members with areas of expertise in any of the following professions: Information technology, law (preferably in nonprofit, business or employment law), community leadership, and grant writing. “These are just some of the many talents that we need. Whatever your skills, we would like to talk to you,” a new release said.
