Hyaks Hoops: Girls win, boys lose to Ocosta

Both teams on road in Westport

WESTPORT — Hannah Avery scored 17 points as North Beach topped cold-shooting Ocosta, 42-29, in a Pacific League game Saturday at Westport.

Avery, a senior guard, nailed 4-of-6 shots from 3-point range. Lorin Cox had nine points for North Beach (5-3, 8-3).

Ocosta (4-5, 6-6) shot only 22 percent from the field and missed all seven of its free throws.

“Self-inflicted turnovers killed us and cold shooting,” Ocosta coach Jason Barnum said. “We couldn’t find the rim.”

Kaylee Barnum and Kristi Raffelson had eight points apiece for the Wildcats.

North Beach hosts Chief Leschi on Tuesday, while Ocosta entertains Ilwaco on Thursday.
