Sorry, Rich
In this week’s North Coast News, there is Part II of Rich McEachin’s answers, regarding 2007 spending, contracts etc., as well as McEachin rebutting Creighton, and Creighton rebutting McEachin.
Unfortunately, due to some weird technology glitch on Page 4, this photo appeared
where this should have been:
Speed limits = staying the same
Despite Don Scott’s 500+ signature petition to repeal the lowered speed limits of 2009, City Council isn’t budging, for now at least. By a “consensus,” they agreed to look at the issue again . . . but not until August.
Would you:
a) keep speed limits where they are now
b) raise speed limits to pre-Summer of 2009 levels
c) call Freddy Kruger and tell him “got something for you that won’t die”
The light side of the “black hole”
Supposed to be raining, right now. The ups and downs of the radar “black hole” out here . . .
New comments policy
You’ll have to “register” to post comments. This will require a valid email address, as that is where your “verification link” will be sent. Hopefully, the IT department will have this set up by now.
No more fakers!
High Surf advisory
from the county: The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Advisory for the entire Washington Coast starting at 6am Monday and lasting until 6am Tuesday.
Waves will range 21 feet to 24 feet and will make significant runs up the beaches. DO NOT TURN YOUR BACK TO THE SEA! Stay away from Jetties and rocks as large rogue waves could easily sweep a person away. Debris such as logs and tree limbs could wash upon the beach. Be alert for rip tides and erosion as they are always associated with high surf conditions.

In the meantime . . .
If you choose to dive in and read the lengthy comments posted on this site recently, remember that many are using fictitious names, that I do my best to remove offensive posts but can’t be comment-cop 24/7, and claims of “inside information” are just that . . . claims.
The dark side of the Internet, right here on the North Beach.
Apologies to those posting comments in an appropriate manner.
Changes coming soon
In the last week or so, a few folks have been blatantly disregarding the “comment policy” with their off-topic, conversational, insulting, offensive and/or otherwise inappropriate comments. Someone with way-too-much time on his/her hands apparently thinks it’s “cute” to pretend to be someone else. As one (rightfully) disgusted, legitimate commenter said this morning: “Have you considered barring those that can’t seem to post a civil comment or have to resort to name-calling in order to express themselves?”
Answer: Yes. The way the system is currently set up, I don’t believe that is possible. But that will change soon, even if this site has to be temporarily shut down. Or even permanently, if the “problems” can’t be fixed.
Once again, an excerpt from the comment policy:

Clam dig?
OLYMPIA – Rising marine toxin levels have prompted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to cancel a razor clam dig scheduled at Long Beach and delay final decisions about digs at Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks beaches until next week.Olympic National Park will also wait until next week to decide on a dig at Kalaloch Beach, pending the results of further biotoxin testing.
Previous plans for a dig starting late next week were put on hold after routine testing found elevated levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) in clams collected on coastal beaches, said Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager.
PSP is a marine toxin produced by a certain type of algae that can cause paralysis and even death if consumed in sufficient quantities.
Love them or hate them . . .
Don’t think you’ll find too many folks in this town who think Dave Creighton and Rich McEachin are both great guys. Nor many who will agree with both of their versions of 2007, in this week’s NCN.
In any case, appreciation to both for going “on the record” and shedding light into an unforgettable year; good, bad or ugly, there was much happening, in 2007.
Next week: McEachin Talks, Part II. Some great details, and answer to the question, “Why does the headline say ‘He did it his way’?”
Bruce: X your DVD
A recent Bruce Richardson column, on computers/technology:
Game Console?
I have an old ‘component’ set up at my house. You have probably had one at some time and may still have one. It contains the amplifier, the DVD player, the video tape player (yikes! Is that dating me), surround sound system, all hooked up to the television. Recently, my DVD player broke and was beyond repair (those old buttons wouldn’t work anymore).
This year, I replaced my DVD player with an Xbox 360.
I know what you are thinking, because I used to feel the same way: spend $300.00 for a game console? I can’t justify spending money to play games!
