On the Beach: Christmas calendar filling up fast

By Daniela Werner, On the Beach columnist

Get your December Calendar out. Between the shopping and decoration and cooking, remember to take some time for activities with family and friends. Those kiddos will remember the memories you make far beyond the gifts.

Take the family out for an evening of laughs with some great local talent. Stage West Community Theatre presents The Rented Christmas, a delightful play for the entire family. All performances held at the Ocean Shores Lions Club. Dates and times are Friday and Saturday Dec. 8, 9, 15 and 16 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 10, and 17th at 2 p.m. Tickets available at Ocean Shores Animal Hospital, Dolores’ and Fay’s, Mocha Madness, and the Visitor Information Center.

On Saturday Dec. 16, visit the Door Mouse Boutique to finish your Christmas shopping. Enjoy a cup of hot cider and assorted goodies.

And one for the kiddos that day at the Holiday Book Giveaway Party at the Ocean Shores Library! North Beach children, baby – 6th grade, come and make fun holiday crafts, write letters to Santa, and get a free wrapped book from the Elves, 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.

In a quote from Buddy the Elf, “The best way to spread Christmas is cheer singing loud for all to hear.” And when the kiddos sing, they do just that. The Ocean Shores Elementary Holiday Program is on Dec. 21 and early release on Dec. 22 for Christmas break.

Playtime Family Fun has a Christmas light show synchronized to music nightly, beginning at 5 p.m.. The radio channel to tune into is displayed on their sign.

The annual Kiwanis Christmas for Kids at the Ocean Shores Convention Center on Dec. 16 from 1 to 4 p.m.

Here are some activities in our neighboring communities-

Make the Drive to Aberdeen for Winterfest a weekend of festivities-Friday, Dec. 1 – Caroling, Tree Lighting, Santa Arrives in a Fire Truck, Downtown Trolley Rides, Stores Open, Free Drawings in the Stores. Saturday, Dec. 2 – Breakfast with Santa and Pictures with Santa in the D & R Event Center on I Street; Holiday Market – Vendors Galore in the old Goldberg’s Furniture Store on Wishkah; Tree Lighting and more events to come in the afternoon and evening at the Historical Seaport! This is a weekend o truly great events.

In Montesano beginning December 8th is the annual tradition “Festival of Lights”- for nearly fifteen years I participated in this event, marching in the rain, riding on a float with the snow gently falling, and my favorite year, as the snow Queen in the Gingerbread House during the Candyland theme.

Bundle up, grab a lawn chair and support our local communities in their shining moments this Holiday Season.
