Coast Calendar: New poster highlights updated Clam Fest

Renewed Antique Show has special early premier event

With its name updated as the Ocean Shores Razor Clam & Seafood Festival — and five major sponsors announced — the annual March shellfish and coastal culinary celebration now features new colorful poster art.

Presented by the Quinault Beach Resort Casino and produced by the Ocean Shores/North Beach Chamber of Commerce, this year’s festival will take place at the Ocean Shores Convention Center March 16-17.

A news release announcing some of the changes included the collaboration with Associated Arts of Ocean Shores (AAOS) to select Karin Malzan Phifer as the poster artist for the 2019 festival. “Karin’s whimsical and delightful color pencil art, ‘Underwater Playdate,’ introduces a greatly expanded Razor Clam Festival,” the release said.

In 2013, Karin and her husband, driftwood sculptor Stephen Phifer, moved from Arizona to Washington state, where they opened Sandphifer Gallery in 2016 in Pacific Beach.

The sponsors listed this year include Quinault Beach Resort & Casino as the presenting sponsors, and gold sponsors including Bennett’s Seafood Shack, Oyhut Bay, The Daily World, and The Weed Shack.

“The Clam Festival is the celebration of our local life, culture, and foods, the relaxed pace of life at the beach, and our Razor Clam digs,” the news release said. “… The festival is growing and expanding this year — take a look and come on down to the beach.”

There are clam digs tentatively scheduled for both days, and the festival will be open until 8 p.m. Saturday, with closing at 3 p.m. on Sunday just before a low tide expected about 4 p.m. (check tide tables for details).
