OYEHUT — Solid defense paved the way to a 59-32 victory for North Beach over Chief Leschi in a Pacific 2B League game at the House of Pain on Tuesday.

Led by 20 points from Reilly Moore and nine each from Lorin Cox and Helen Garman, the Hyaks (6-3, 9-3) held the Warriors to 12 points in the second half.

“As the game progressed, our defense just got better and better,” North Beach coach Larry Moore said. “Once we got ahead, we just kept our composure and played great defense. We just slowly pulled away.”

Garman added 10 rebounds, while Hannah Avery dished out five assists and Mariah Vogler grabbed six rebounds.

Larry Moore cited Caela McGehee for her effort off the bench and Reilly Moore and Hannah Avery for their leadership.

North Beach travels to Taholah on Thursday.

Warriors 73, Hyaks 46

OYEHUT — A slow start for North Beach and a hot shooting start for Chief Leschi doomed the Hyaks as the Warriors rolled to victory in a Pacific 2B League contest at the House of Pain on Tuesday.

Chief Leschi’s Yahola Gower hit four 3-pointers in the first quarter to help the Warriors jump out to a 15-point lead early on and the Hyaks never recovered.

“We were not ready and they were,” North Beach coach Larry Moore said. “We just turned the ball over too much. We just have to do a better job taking care of the ball. At times we played really well, but other times we turned the ball over right under the other team’s basket.”

Tim Johnson led the Hyaks with 21 points, while Rodney Washington added seven rebounds.

Moore cited Ben Poplin for his overall performance.

North Beach (1-8, 2-11) hosts Willapa Valley on Friday.
