Coast Calendar: Hawks Fan Fest, Seabrook Gnome fun

The wave of events that make up the second annual Seahawks Fan Fest and Beach Party begins Thursday evening with preseason football game parties at both both the Quinault Beach Resort Casino and Galway Bay Irish Pub, with family viewing at Galway.

Festivities continue Friday with the Mighty Alliance Fan Fest Tailgate Party at Oyhut Bay starting at noon. The event features former Seahawks players Norm Johnson, Jordan Babineaux, Joe Tafoya, as well as family members of players, superfans, and “Wilson the 12th Pony.”


Also on Friday, vendors will be at both the Ocean Shores Convention Center and QBRC. The Convention Center hosts Radio 80 as well as Aaron Crawford with The Boot Boogie Babes, a Seattle Line Dance Team (see music lineup below).

Saturday includes a Hawk-themed 5k Fun Run at 8 a.m. that goes from the Convention Center past Sharky’s, onto the beach and back to the Convention Center (register online or starting at 7 a.m.) . At 10 a.m., there will be a parade that includes “Hawked-out vehicles” and special celebrity guests. Seahawks celebrities then will raise the 12th man flag officially taking over Ocean Shores for the weekend.

Celebrate the inception of the original Seahawks logo with Traditional Quinault Indian Nation Native American Dancers show inside the Convention Center, followed by a traditional salmon bake.

The public can join Mamma Lynch , Mamma Sherman, Mamma Thomas and other Seahawks Mammas on Saturday for bowling with special colored pins and free raffle ticket to each participant for great prizes at Shores Bowling; or play in the Babineaux Family Foundation Celebrity 9-Hole Golf Tournament with former Seahawk Jordan Babineaux and other celebrity guests.

Sunday continues with a Celebrity Pancake Breakfast and Awards Ceremony at the Convention Center with proceeds benefiting North Beach Hyak Cheerleading.

Benefactors of the event include GH Youth Athletics, North Beach Hyak Cheer and The Madeleine Project. The proceeds from the parade will go to Helping Heroes.

Seabrook Gnome Festival

Aug. 20-21 — Featuring master sand sculptor Eric Hawley, who will capture a giant gnome with sand as his medium.

In addition to Hawley, Seabrook will host the Seattle kid band, The Not-Its! This free concert will be held on the event lawn starting at 4:30 p.m. Other activities on Saturday including gnome bike parade, gnome hat decorating ($5) and T-shirt coloring ($15). Prior to the concert you will have the chance to win a gnome goodie bag at the Lucky 7 Weekly drawing to be held at the Saturday Market. The market starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m. The drawing will take place at 3:45 p.m.

On Sunday, the event will culminate at dark with the showing of Gnomeo and Juliet in Horseshoe Park.
