‘month of miracles’

It is with a great deal of excitement that I am declaring March to be the “Month of Miracles.” So many good things have been coming our way that I want to share with everyone the impact this program is having in the community.

Miracle number one was a grant of $10,000 from the Seabrook Community Foundation and miracle number two was a grant of $20,000 from the Grays Harbor Community Foundation. Miracle number three was the donation of an awesome electric smoker from Ace Hardware/Buck Electric. This will be given as a raffle prize to raise funds for the program. Talk about being thankful, that is what we are.

The other miracles are the ones that keep on happening every month. Volunteers from Seabrook coming every week to pack lunches, Steve from the Market at Seabrook, calling to say, “We have apples,” Sharon from the Copalis Beach Grocery calling to say, “We have carrots,” Paula calling from the Sunrise Market to say, “We have snacks,” Donna calling from Echo By the Sea Motel to say, “We have chips,” and Coast Communications calling to say, “We have peanut butter.” And because of this, we are able to fill one lunch sack after another with extra treats for the kids — 992 lunches every Friday.

We are also becoming firmly integrated with Coastal Harvest and Food Lifeline which helps us greatly with our food costs, making each donated dollar go further. Along the line of donations are the countless people sending us checks or dropping off donations of cash at the Green Lantern Pub. All being said, this program was created to deal with food insecurity in the lives of the kids in our community and it is doing just that. As many of the Moms say: “It sure helps out, getting these lunches for the kids.” So as we work toward preparing for the summer program when we will be delivering three days a week, two lunches per day, keep us in mind and come by and see the operation, volunteer to pack /drive, we would love to have you join us. Help us to continue to be a ray of sunshine on a cloudy day.
