State reps to visit OS today and Friday

State Representatives Steve Tharinger and Mike Chapman from the 24th District, which includes all of the North Coast and most of Grays Harbor County, will visit Ocean Shores today and Friday.

They will participate in a mock congressional hearing at Ocean Shores Elementary School from 10 a.m. to noon today, followed by several activities elsewhere in the county. They’ll be back at the beach at 4 p.m. Friday for a public meeting at the Ocean Shores Convention Center where they will give a wrap-up on what the state Legislature accomplished in the session just finished and what they hope to get done next year.

The parents of Mrs. Beth Rockey’s fifth and sixth grade students are invited to watch the mock hearing in the school library Thursday. Students have been studying “We the People” curriculum and will be participating in the simulated congressional hearing.

Tharinger and Chapman, along with North Beach Superintendent Andy Kelly, will preside over the hearing and interview the students, who have been studying to prepare to offer their “expert testimony.” Each of the children will contribute as witnesses called during the mock hearing.
