Pacific Beach resort damaged by Monday evening fire

A fire at the Navy Getaways Pacific Beach Resort started in a laundry room and caused significant smoke damage to one of the resort’s buildings Monday evening, according to Grays Harbor Fire District 8 Lt. Stephanie Allestad.

The resort is a former Navy base now converted into a vacation resort often used by military and government families.

The call came in just before 5 p.m. about smoke coming from building 112, the laundry room at the resort. When Chief John Collum arrived he called for the District 8 ladder truck and engine, and Fire District 7 and Ocean Shores for mutual aid engines. District 7 also brought their ambulance to assist in rehab, and both agencies assisted in mop-up, said Allestad.

The laundry room was a total loss, and the rest of the building, which includes a rec room and a small movie theater, suffered heavy smoke damage, said Allestad. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

An attempt to contact the resort Tuesday morning was unsuccessful.
