North Beach schools closed by gas odor at High School

Fire Department responded Tuesday night before special Board meeting when smell was noticed

Schools were closed in the North Beach School District on Wednesday due to gas odor at North Beach Jr./Sr. High School.

The odor first was noticed on Tuesday night just before the North Beach School Board was set to meet in the library for a special meeting. The meeting was moved to the district’s transportation building while the Ocean Shores Fire Department was called to the scene.

At the meeting, the board agreed to hire another teacher to address class size problems at Ocean Shores Elementary School.

Schools already were scheduled for a late arrival on Wednesday before the cancellation was announced. The cause of the odor remains unknown.
