Coastal Council members include 5 from Grays Harbor

Gov. Inslee appoints 16, including Mark Plackett of Ocean Shores

Several Grays Harbor-area citizens have been named by Gov. Jay Inslee to the Coastal Marine Advisory Council.

In a list of board and commission appointments made by the governor during November, 16 new members were appointed to the coastal council. The Coastal Marine Advisory Council appointments included: Arthur Grunbaum of Aberdeen, Casey Dennehy of Westport, Jessica Helsley of Hoquiam, Mark Plackett of Ocean Shores, Randy Lewis of Aberdeen, Douglas Kess of Naselle, Michael Cassinelli of Ilwaco, and Tiffany Turner of Long Beach.

The council is made up of 26 members, and includes coastal interests such as commercial fishing, conservation, economic development, education, energy, recreation and other marine interests.

It develops policy recommendations and includes representatives from the following coastal counties: Clallam, Jefferson, Grays Harbor and and Pacific.

The next scheduled meeting is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Dec. 15 at the Port of Grays Harbor Commission Chambers, 1111 S. Wooding St. in Aberdeen.

Among the topics for the morning session is an updated agency report on ship vessel traffic and risk assessment for Grays Harbor. The afternoon session includes an update on sea floor mapping, and the topic “Coastal Resiliency and Dependence: Salmon.”

Regularly scheduled meetings for 2018 are planned for March 28, June 13, Sept. 26 and Dec. 12. All meetings are open to the public.
