WSU Master Gardeners’ 1st Saturday Workshop: Small-Space Gardening

“Small Space” workshop April 1

No April Fools, It’s free! The WSU Master Gardeners of Grays Harbor and Pacific Counties are offering a continuation of free “1st Saturday” workshops on April 1, from 10 a.m. to noon for your gardening skills improvement. This second workshop is “Small Space Gardening,” designed to show you some basic plants to use (limited only by lack of imagination) and how to place them in your choice of containers. Location of this workshop is at the WSU Extension office at the Elma fairgrounds.

Rather than spending time in the produce isle at the market it’s so much more fun to watch produce growing in your own containers possibly by non-traditional methods,” says Kim Woodford, WSU Master Gardener.” “Have you tried using a straw bale to grow kale or lettuces? How high can you go? WSU Master Gardeners s will show you how to explore vertical gardening. What about color? We’ll look at colors that attract birds and bees. Our Mason bees were so popular in our March 4th workshop that they will be returning with a sequel.”

WSU-Certified Master Gardeners who present the workshop always allow time for questions from the participants. This fun fact-filled workshop also includes which plants and plant families are best suited for container-related production. A pot of colorful plants will go home with some lucky attendee in a drawing this same day.

No preregistration is required. Contact for the class is Cindy Burton, email: cindyburton@comcast.net.

Next workshops planned include: May 6, “Attracting Wildlife into Your Garden” and June 3, “Tips for Practical Gardening.”
