Ocean Shores Elks receive state honors

Nancy M. Oakes, of Ocean Shores-North Beach Elks Lodge, was named Exalted Ruler of the Year for both the district and the state during the Washington State Elks Association’s annual convention in Pasco.

This marks the first time in the Ocean Shores lodge’s 40-year history that one of its Exalted Rulers has been awarded this title.

Within the state’s seven-lodge West District, Phyllis Shaughnessy, of the Green Lantern Lunch Program, was named Citizen of the Year; and Alison Cline, Lecturing Knight for 2018-19, was named Officer of the Year.

The lodge itself also was recognized for recording the state’s greatest membership gain in the past year.

The lodge’s current Exalted Ruler, Tony Woodbeck, praised the local honorees and presented them with their awards at the monthly meeting June 19.
