Coast Calendar: Wearable Art Show returns, Seabrook hosts new event

The 6th annual Ocean Shores Wearable Art Show will once again fill the Convention Center with its yearly runway-style fashion show that is all about wacky, wonderful and weird, one-of-a-kind wearables. A few tickets remain for the event that is often sold out by show time, 7:30 p.m. this Saturday, June 3.

Show producers Tricia Funk and Eric Bjella define “Wearable Art” as hand-crafted, one-of-a-kind artwork designed to be worn on the human body. No ready-made costumes are allowed. Artists of all media are invited to create functional (or not-so-functional) pieces of art designed to be worn. Artists are encouraged, but not required, to create pieces along the theme of the show, which this year is “Somewhere in Time.”

Funk began her foray into the wearable art world in Ketchikan, AK in 2000. After moving to Ocean Shores in 2008 she started to wonder what Wearable Art might look like in Grays Harbor. That idea grew and so did her pile of collected items just waiting to be made into a unique costume for the runway. In 2012, Funk and Bjella collaborated with Leslie Reedy for the first annual Ocean Shores Wearable Art Show.

Tickets are available at the Visitors Information Center and Delores and Fay’s. If any seats remain, they will be offered at the door Saturday. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7:30. The artists generally remain in their unique outfits to meet and chat with audience members after the show in the Convention Center lobby. More information is available online at www.oswearableart.com and the Facebook page, Ocean Shores Wearable Art Show.
