Snain?
That’s my word for “wintry mix of snow and rain” you hear on weather forecasts. Anyway, enjoy the white stuff, while it lasts, looks like we’re about to return to our usual rain-wind (“raind“) December mix. National Weather Service forecast for Ocean Shores area:
Today: Rain. High near 45. Breezy, with a light wind becoming south between 19 and 22 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
Tonight: Rain. Low around 44. Breezy, with a southwest wind between 22 and 28 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.
Saturday: Rain before 6am, then showers, mainly before 10am. Temperature rising to near 45 by 11am, then falling to around 40 during the remainder of the day. Breezy, with a west wind between 21 and 23 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%.

Notes on shoveling
| All this snow takes me back to my youth, in Pittsburgh, Pa. Back then, we had snowdrifts up to our ears, Al Gore had yet to be invented, and “global warming” was a fantasy beyond our conception.
The mini-blizzards that have fallen on the North Beach are, I’m told, odd, but not entirely unprecedented. Usually, it will snow a bit, allow time for photo opportunities, then have the courtesy to melt. This snow has been like the boring guest who doesn’t know when it’s time to leave. It just hangs around, taking up your parking place, slowly losing all interest, and, no matter how long you glare at it, refusing to go. (I lost track if I’m talking about the snow or the guest. Either way . . .) I’ve noticed that some around here are not, perhaps, as experienced on the art of snow removal. If you’re in Ocean Shores, and you’re waiting for City crews in fun holiday hats to race around in decorated trucks scooping up the snow, Mayor Dean Bunkers has two words for you: “No money.” (That’s not quite a direct quote, but pretty close.)

Collins Inn . . . the snow
