Championship games today at North Beach High’s “Holidays With the Hyaks” basketball tournament. The North Beach girls remains undefeated, after a 20-point win last night. They play today at 4 p.m., followed at 5:30 p.m. by the boys team, who defeated Evergreen Lutheran last night, 63-51.

Lady Hyaks: 9-0
The North Beach girls basketball team just rolled up their record to 9-0, with a 56-39 win at home, over Willapa Valley. The Lady Hyaks, led by seniors Nicole Mosley and Tahnee McCrory , used a tenacious defense to break open a close game. Dramikha Skaar, scoring a late lay-up:

Buck & Law lead wrestlers
From North Beach High wrestling coach Maynard Reed: In our league’s first new mix-‘n-match duel format at Adna last night, an inexperienced and incomplete North Beach wrestling squad performed very well and continue to improve as a whole. Overall, North Beach won 15 of 25 matches punctuated by double match winners: Jennifer Law, Eddie Prescott, Robert Buck and Tyler Reed.

Hyaks 52, Navigators 49 (OT)
LACEY — Ihya Bastian scored six points in overtime as unbeaten North Beach opened Pacific League play by edging Northwest Christian on Saturday at Lacey.
Bastian scored 17 points, including a critical 3-point basket with 2:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.

A fast, athletic Hoquiam team ran away from North Beach, 76-36, last night. Derek Archer (pictured) scored 14 for the home Hyaks. The boys, now 2-1, and undefeated girls teams are both at Montesano on Friday night.

Ben Grover 5th at District
A dozen schools, including North Beach High, competed at yesterday’s 1B/2B District 4 Cross Country Championships at Evergreen State College. The top 5 boys teams and top 25 individuals qualified for the State championships. The North Beach boys finished 3rd, led by Ben Grover’s 5th place finish “the highest finish for a male Hyak in over 20 years,” according to coach Rick Leighty. Dylan Hearn (22nd) and Gunnar Trygstad (23rd) also made it to the State meet Nov. 6 at the Sun Willows Golf Course in Pasco.
Finishing 5th, the girls team just missed making the State competition; only the top 3 girls teams and top 15 girls finishers move on. Results:
