North Beach wrestlers schedules
Brackets from the “Mat Classic” State Championship at the Tacoma Dome have been announced. The two-day tournament begins tomorrow. North Beach High is in the 1B/2B category.
Dominic Deibel, at 119 pounds, is the first North Beach wrestler scheduled, with a 10:40 a.m. start time. He will be followed by: Anthony Tignino (125), 10:56 a.m.; Robert Buck (171), 12:48 p.m.; Sawyer Reed (285), 1:28 p.m.; and Jennifer Law (152, girls division), 12:08. Tyler Reed, an alternate at 189 pounds, needs a cancellation to get a shot at a State championship.

These North Beach High wrestlers are off to the State championship tournament, Friday and Saturday at the Tacoma Dome. One of these six may become the first state champion in school history; Jennifer finished fifth, last year, Anthony also wrestled at the “Mat Classic” last year. (Corrections from original post.)

Hyaks post-season run
A State Championship is the Super Bowl of high school. Eleven North Beach wrestlers and the girls and boys basketball teams continue their title pursuits in the coming days.
After finishing fourth or better in the sub-regional tournament last weekend, Jennifer Law, Dominic Deibel, Sawyer Reed, Anthony Tignino, Kevin Braden, Kaleb Towery, Joey Franklin, Robert Buck, Robby Patton, Tyler Reed and Alex Cadle will wrestle tomorrow in the Regional tournament. It takes place at Tacoma Baptist High School, starting at 9 a.m.
The boys basketball team’s 67-47 “Senior Night” win over Raymond last night qualifies them for the District tournament; they squeaked into the tournament, but could be dangerous. The girls team had qualified earlier, with a terrific 15-4 regular season.

Big day for North Beach wrestlers
Eleven North Beach wrestlers finished fourth or better in today’s “sub-regional” (a.k.a. district) tournament, qualifying for next week’s regional tournament at Tacoma.
Jennifer Law, Dominic Deibel and Sawyer Reed scored first place finishes, and the Hyaks team finished fourth. Anthony Tignino, Kevin Braden, Kaleb Towery, Joey Franklin, Robert Buck, Robby Patton, Tyler Reed and Alex Cadle also finished fourth or better.

Wrestlers compete at District
Saturday at 11 a.m., the North Beach High wrestlers compete at the Subregional (a.k.a. “District”) Class B Tournament at Ocosta. The top four finishers in each weight class move on to the regional tournament the following weekend, with the State championship tournament in Tacoma coming soon.
Lady Hyaks rock Senior Night
First, flowers for the seniors, recognition and hugs, like the one shared above between Elizabeth Thatcher and her mother. Then, the starting five (below) went out and blew the doors off Ocosta, romping to a 14-0 lead and winning by a landslide, 78-21 The seniors who started: Anna Moody, Gabbie Makinson, Leanna Mong and Thatcher. Lady Hyaks drop road game
Last night, powerful Northwest Christian (now 13-1 on the year) defeated North Beach, 43-37. The Lady Hyaks are now 12-3 on the year. They play at Raymond, on Friday evening.
Lady Hyaks roll up another win
Brett Mackey’s North Beach High girls basketball team delivers a road win, rolling up to an 11-2 start. The boys basketballers are at home tonight, against Willapa Valley.
Hyaks 62, Vikings 38
MENLO — Both North Beach and Willapa Valley experienced a roller-coaster first half, but the Hyaks were the only ones to keep their intensity up in this Pacific League matchup.
Up by seven at halftime, North Beach doubled up host Valley, 34-17, in the second half.
