Hit and run
From the OSPD: At approximately 1 AM this morning the Ocean Shores Police were advised of a hit and run accident that that had just occurred at the Ocean Shores Airport. Officers arriving found that a vehicle had driven through the airport’s parking lot fence and then back out again through the fence causing extensive damage. The vehicle had fled the scene and there were no witnesses. Investigation determined that the vehicle had been driving eastbound on Albatross and failed to negotiate the turn onto southbound Duck Lake Dr. The vehicle went through the cyclone fence narrowly missing a telephone pole, immediately turned and drove back through the fence again, breaking a No Parking sign. The vehicle became entangled in the fence wiring and carried it approximately 300 feet causing the remaining fence to fall.
Based on debris left at the scene, Officer Aaron Glanz was able to locate the parked suspect vehicle around 7AM. The vehicle had severe damage to the front end. A 34 year old Ocean Shores man was arrested for hit and run property damage after admitting to the crime. The driver indicated that he had been drinking prior to the accident and was not injured. The preliminary damage estimate is $3000.
Warrant arrest
Aaron Glanz of the Ocean Shores Police Dept. pulled over a vehicle on a traffic infraction, Monday/Valentine’s Day around noon. Glanz ran a check of the driver, who turned out to have a suspended license, as well as outstanding Lewis County warrants for Theft, Possession of Stolen Property and Assault.
Glanz arrested the driver, who was transported to Lewis County jail in Chehalis, where he awaits trial . . . One wonders if the man was in Ocean Shores for “business” or “pleasure” . . .

Vacation home burglaries
An alert citizen and Street Department workers apparently have helped Ocean Shores Police crack some recent “clean-the-house-and-garage” burglaries. The OSPD asks for help in locating “a 1995, 23 foot, Jamboree motorhome, tan in color with pink over blue over brown stripes and a broken passenger side rear window. License for the vehicle is Washington 758VNF.”

Standoff ends with arrest
After a tense 90 minutes, Ocean Shores police and Grays Harbor deputies took into custody a 26-year-old Ocean Shores man. He was arrested on second degree assault, after allegedly waving a knife and threatening someone who came to his home on Duck Lake Drive (near Ozette Street). When police responded at 10:11 a.m., the resident did not answer the door, or commands to show himself. Off-duty officers and Sheriff’s Department deputies secured the area, with Chief Mike Styner commanding the operation. With a dozen law enforcement officers on the scene, a Sheriff’s K-9 unit (deputy and dog) searched the area, and found the suspect hiding in the marshy area behind the home. Dave McManus of the OSPD said he was arrested at noon, without resistance.
