Way back when . . .
A little recent-history perspective, thanks to Nicky Anderson for plumbing through old North Coast News (and Ocean Observers) at the Library:

It was the biggest 4th of July holiday weekend in memory for local police and emergency personnel. The Ocean Shores Fire and Emergency Care Department was overwhelmed at one point. Sunday night they called for three additional wildlife fire engines, which never came, and additional ambulances from Hoquiam.

The Little Museum That Could
from this week’s newspaper:
The caboose is leaking.
It’s just a hair above freezing, the wind blowing hard enough to shake this little red train car. There are a few puddles inside, as tarps strapped to the outside aren’t completely patching some holes caused by a bigger wind storm.
Yes, this little old caboose has seen better times . . .
This, fittingly for several reasons, is the physical place holder for the Museum of the North Beach’s “Depot Project.” For years, the caboose had been used as a nightly rental, until the owners donated it to the museum.
Things like this just seem to keep falling into the museum’s collective lap.
Through a combination of kismet and tenacious work, the Museum of the North Beach recently announced it had met its seemingly insurmountable goal: qualifying for a Federal Highway Administration grant, by raising $130,000, or 20 percent of the project.
Not only did founders Lee Marriott, Kathy Jaquet, Kelly Calhoun and their team of dedicated volunteers meet that goal, they roared past it, coming in at over $240,000 in monetary and “in-kind” pledges.

A Humptulips man was arrested Friday on suspicion of murder. 55 year old Dennis Potter is suspected of murdering his wife in 1976. Norma Lee Potter, then 40, was thought to have died in an auto accident on November 28 1976. Now officials believe Potter may have staged the accident in an attempt to kill both his wife and possibly himself.
The Ocean Shores City Council rejected a contract from the County providing for rural ambulance service saying that the $2500 offered is not enough to cover costs.

Sandi Beasley of Public Works has a new computer and printer that will make her job easier, and save Public Works time. The first step she said will be to learn the word processing functions. This will help with the public service handouts they offer and especially with the task of contract writing.
