Jennifer Law goes for State title
North Beach High star wrestler Jennifer Law just won a semi-final match (6-4) to earn a spot in tonight’s championship. The powerful, cool Law will shoot to be North Beach’s first state champ, with the title match scheduled for 7:40 p.m.
Sawyer Reed pinned his first opponent, but lost in the second round; he still has a chance for third place in the 285 pound/heavyweight division. *Update: Reed finishes fourth in the state.
*Update: Law loses in finals, 9-6.
Big day for North Beach girls
North Beach High star wrestler Jennifer Law won her third consecutive regional title yesterday, and goes on to the state tournament. Lady Hyaks lose a close one
With a packed gym roaring, the North Beach High girls were up over Naselle by seven points in the third quarter, but then . . . star Tahnee McCrory got into foul trouble, sat on the bench as the lead dwindled. She came back in the game in the fourth quarter, only to quickly get her fifth foul. With her out of the game, the Lady Hyaks had a tough time scoring. A calm Naselle team kept coming back, and hit some clutch shots to take a close, tough game. North Beach fell to 17-2 on the year, with the only two losses against Naselle.
It was an even tougher loss, as it was “Senior Night,” with Tahnee, Nicole Mosley, Melanie Hahn and Kelsey Moore honored in an emotional pre-game ceremony.
