Fun break: Caption This Photo contest
From our man Gary Iversen (“The Ansel Adams of Duck Lake,” as I like to call him). Note from photographer: “yes, he can get out.”
Do you dare?

In Ocean Shores, the big party is the Ocean Shores Firefighters Association’s 39th Annual Halloween Party at the Ocean Shores Convention Center, starting at 6 p.m. (ending at 8). There will be a costume contest, prizes, games and, of course, candy.
It happened last night . . .
Tony Byers photo of a memorable, night-ending jam by two high-energy Irish bands: Ockham’s Razor (from Seattle) and Cullan’s Hounds (from San Francisco). Imagine the Pogues, meet Nine Inch Nails . . . And if you never thought you’d use the words “accordion” and “sexy” in the same sentence . . . The mad fun continues at Galway Bay through the weekend, and at “fourth stage” the Lions Club, which will be howling with these bands and more on Saturday afternoon and night.

World’s Greatest Bar Door
Jeff Beard, the muscleman/bartender who designed the world’s greatest bar door, invites you in, to the Galway Bay Irish Music Festival. Great shows tonight, Friday and Saturday (Irish bands from the fest will also be at the Lions Club, on Saturday). The door leads from the back of Galway to an outdoor bar and music stage; it also works as an unofficial test of someone’s sobriety.

VOTE!
A reader recently found this “message in a bottle” near the Jetty. She’s leaving it up to you to decide its fate.
a) Open it
b) Throw it back in the ocean
c) Open it, read the message, seal it back up and throw it back in the ocean
FREE ICE CREAM!
Carousel Ice Cream (on Ocean Shores Blvd. NW, next to Cutting Edge Kites) is closing. Long story. That’s the bad news.
Good new: They’re giving away FREE ICE CREAM to kids, all day today and Sunday. Adults: $1 for ice cream.
Enjoy!

This is Paddle the Shores
A two-day festival concludes with the Cardboard Boat Race, soon to be an Ocean Shores Tradition:
Eight teams had an hour to make boats out of cardboard and tape. Then eight hardy “skippers” raced about 1/4 mile out into Duck Lake. Remarkably, half floated to the finish line.
Do the volunteers of ACT (Action Committee for Tourism) know how to put on an event, or what?
The bio-map
Most city maps are pretty boring. “Main Street,” “First Avenue,” “Broadway,” yawn blah snore. . .
The Ocean Shores street map has to be one of the best out there, descriptive and biographic, yet quirky and unpredictable. Some highlights:
Octopus Avenue
Cuddy Court
Barnacle Street
Puffin Avenue
Ebb Court
Sand Dune Avenue
Albatross Street
