Young and old pitching in
Ernie Johnson, SuperVolunteer, is over at the Chance approach, leading a team of volunteers picking up mounds of trash. Ken Lanfear, the Director of Public Works, is coordinating his crew as they load up and haul away two dump truck loads full of garbage.
Old-timer Arnold Samuels took time out from picking up “dirty diapers, all kinds of trash” to take this photo of Rebekah Midbrod, a young local helping clean up after the army of invaders:
Surf’s up
How we do it in the 289
Hey, I almost got stuck, first time I drove on the beach out here, so no heckling . . .
The nice story behind the photo:
From Becky Baker: “my kids and i rolled up on this family and their motor home stuck in the sand just off shilo exit last tuesday. they had been there half hour and no one would help them.
i asked the boys if they would like to see if they could help, they are 13 and 15 and they said yes.
Trashed tree stump
Frequent beach comber Randy Peck says the big stump near the Chance approach that has long been a favorite photo spot has become an eyesore:
Sand & Sawdust, a Five Star kickoff
note: the above Photoshop “mashes” together 2 photos, one of a carver, one of a castle
It all starts today . . .
In Ocean Shores, the unofficial kick-off to summer is the Five Star Sand and Sawdust Festival. Aside from peanut butter and razor clams, what could go together better than chainsaws and sand castles?
It may sound weird, but it works, judging by the masses that have been entertained over the years.
This year’s beach/Convention Center festival runs today through Sunday.
Can you dig this weather forecast?
Becky Baker photo of treasure diggers, last weekend.
It may be pretty miserable out there right now, but based on this weather forecast, people will be digging the beaches again this weekend:

“Becky Baker took a picture of me last week. Just checking in to say I’m doing fine! Here’s more pics the nice lady took of me. Remember you can look, but don’t touch, my Mom is nearby, finding lunch for me. OK, have a nice weekend!”

Enormous Beach Pyramids!
Archaeologists today discovered giant beach pyramids at the Chance a la Mer (translation: “Take a chance at the beach!”) approach. As you can see from the photo below, the pyramids are some 3,000 feet high, making the two giraffes in the foreground look like tiny seagulls.
