Avita Behind Bars
I’ll be posting a gallery with more great Avita photos, in and out of prison, by Vivian Dahlin. Here’s the story on the PAWS Prison Pooch:
Avita is in prison.
While some who know this wild-eyed, rowdy, hard-to-place rascal from North Beach PAWS might not be surprised, she hasn’t done anything wrong.
And she’s about to get out, through the front door.
Avita found her match, three months ago. After the rescue agency struggled to place her (and curb some behaviors) for months, the PAWS people heard about a new program at Stafford Creek Correctional Center; they took Avita to the Aberdeen facility, to see how she would react.
PAWS volunteer Shannon Birch went along, and Avita hid behind her, frightened and on guard.
Then a man convicted of shooting three men at point blank range walked over. Brian Funk kneeled down, didn’t look directly at Avita, and slowly extended his arm toward her . . .
She licked his face.

More on wine-for-PAWS
Westport Winery has selected North Beach Progressive Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) to benefit from their latest wine, True North, a white Merlot. The name, True North, is the Roberts family’s metaphor for true love, something they always get from their pets. The label features their beloved St. Bernard, Koko (the Interior Salish word for dog), who passed away the week they purchased the land for the vineyard in 2007. Donations from the sale this wine will be made in Koko’s memory.

Literalists
Care to guess which street Tony Byers was driving down, when he took a photo of these two? Hint: they act like they own the place.
