Sports Roundup: Hyaks earn titles in tough competition

RIDGEFIELD — Facing tough competition, several North Beach athletes were able to come away with individual titles at the Spudder Track and Field Classic at Ridgefield High School on Friday.

Hoquiam finished third as a boys team with 51 1/2 points, more than doubled up by the host Spudders 111 1/2. North Beach was the only other boys team to place in the top 10 with 31 points to place ninth.

North Beach finished highest of the Twin Harbor schools represented on the girls side with 59 points to take fourth place, one point behind Kalama. Woodland won the girls meet with 74 1/2 points.

North Beach’s Mariah Vogler was the only Hyak girl to claim an individual title, posting a season best distance of 32-9 3/4 to win the triple jump.

North Beach’s Brenden Chaney posted a season best height of 13-3 in the pole vault to come away with the win.

Wesport meet

North Beach’s boys team ended up second in team totals to help finish off the regular season in a Pacific 2B/1B League meet at Ocosta High School on Thursday.

Ben Bridge led the Hyaks with two wins in the throws — shot put and discus — with teammate Brendan Chaney winning the pole vault; Miguel Eastman claimed the 200m sprint and Rodney Washington winning the high jump.

In the girls’ meet, North Beach’s Tawni Blankenship won the 100m sprint and the pole vault.

WESTPORT — Ocosta wrapped up a Pacific 2B League title with a victory over North Beach on Friday. The lone offensive bright spot for the Hyaks came when Hannah Avery hit a 2-run home run in the third inning.
