Softball: Hyaks trounce South Bend

OYEHUT — Jessy Garman delivered three hits and Hannah Avery homered as North Beach trounced South Bend 19-2 on Monday in a Pacific League game shortened to five innings by the mercy rule.

Although played in Oyehut, South Bend was the home team.

The Hyaks (5-1, 8-2) scored multiple runs in each of the first four innings. In addition to collecting 11 hits, they stole 12 bases.

Avery, who had four of the thefts, also pitched three hitless innings to pick up the victory. Aaliyah Newton tripled twice for the Hyaks.

Both teams will next travel to Ocosta. North Beach is scheduled to visit the Wildcats today. The Indians (1-4, 2-8) journey to Westport on Thursday.
