Sports Roundup: Hyaks fall to Ilwaco in division finale

North Beach faces must-win game in playoffs.

OYEHUT — North Beach was unable to catch Ilwaco on this Friday night, with the Hyaks falling 37-14 to the Fishermen in a Southwest Washington 2B Coastal Division finale on Friday.

Tavo Muro ran in two rushing touchdowns for the Hyaks (2-3, 4-5), who will be the No. 4 seed in the division and will travel for a district-to-state crossover game.

“The kids played hard to the bitter end,” North Beach head coach Todd Bridge said. “I just want to acknowledge the seniors tonight for their efforts.

On Thursday, North Beach (4-5) will travel to Centralia’s Tiger Stadium to take on top-ranked Napavine (9-0) in a District IV 2B crossover game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Chitwhins 44, Comets 32

TAHOLAH — At Ben Charley Field, Dylan James accounted for six touchdowns and Taholah(3-0, 4-2) compiled 642 yards of offense to knock off Naselle in a pivotal Coastal 1B League eight-man football game on Wednesday night.

“We had a very stellar performance,” Taholah head coach William James said. “It was very good all-around play on both sides of the ball.”

James ran for 157 yards and three touchdowns, plus caught three passes for 128 yards and one score. To add to his overall totals, James threw for 122 yards and two touchdowns and one interception on 3-of-5 attempts.

Zach Cain threw for 169 yards and one touchdown and added 114 yards ruhsing on 12 carries and one score. Tom Anderson led the receivers with 155 yards on four catches and two touchdowns. Terrance Jones also had a touchdown catch.

Dawson Bastian led the defense with 11 1/2 tackles, including one forced fumble, one fumble recovery and three tackles for a loss. Zach Cain added 9 1/2 tackles, with two forced fumbles, one interception and three tackles for a loss.

Volleyball

North Beach was swept in both matches at Napavine on Saturday. The Hyaks lost to the host Tigers 3-0 and dropped the second match to Northwest Christian 3-0. North Beach finished with a 4-11 record.
