Redaction Policy

Redaction Policy

At North Local News, we are committed to providing accurate, fair, and trustworthy reporting to our readers. While our editorial process is designed to minimize errors, we recognize that mistakes can happen. This Redaction Policy outlines how we address corrections, clarifications, and content updates to maintain transparency and integrity in our reporting.

1. Commitment to Accuracy

  • We strive to verify all facts before publication through reliable sources and editorial review.
  • If an error is identified after publication, we act swiftly to correct it in a clear and transparent manner.

2. Corrections

  • Minor Errors: Typographical mistakes or small inaccuracies (e.g., misspellings, formatting issues) will be corrected without a formal note, unless they alter the meaning of the content.
  • Significant Errors: Factual inaccuracies, misquotes, or incorrect attributions will be corrected promptly. A correction note will be added at the bottom of the article, clearly explaining the change.

Example: “Correction (August 28, 2025): An earlier version of this article misstated the mayor’s term length. It is four years, not three.”

3. Clarifications

  • When information is correct but could be misinterpreted or requires further context, we will update the article with additional clarification.
  • Clarifications will be labeled clearly at the bottom of the article.

4. Retractions

  • In rare cases where a story is found to be substantially false or published in error, we may retract it.
  • A retraction notice will replace the article text, explaining why the piece was removed.
  • We will not “quietly delete” articles—retractions will always include an explanation to our readers.

5. Updates

  • News stories may be updated as new information emerges.
  • Updates that materially affect the reader’s understanding will be noted with a timestamp and explanation at the bottom of the article.

6. Reader Contributions

  • If you believe we have published an error, please contact us at editor@northlocalnews.com.
  • Include the article title, publication date, and a description of the issue. Our editorial team will review and respond promptly.

7. Transparency & Accountability

  • All corrections, clarifications, and retractions will be handled in accordance with this policy.
  • North Local News reserves the right to edit headlines, update language for clarity, and adjust style, provided these changes do not alter the factual accuracy of the article.
