The City’s financial picture
Presented by Steve Ensley, Ocean Shores finance director, at Monday’s “study session” with the Mayor/City Council. finances Council Study 5-9-11
Bad water
A caller yesterday left a voicemail saying her water was “putrid,” and that she had not been able to reach anyone at the City. Miles Beach, the water superintendent, said at last night’s council meeting that he has been spending a great deal of time fielding complaints, and that the bad water is because the city is using stored water, as it transitions from the previous system to the new $7 million MIEX system, which Beach said is now complete. He said the sub-par water will be in the system for at least another week. *I just emailed Beach to ask to clarify his comments, and determine if the current water has any health concerns, and why exactly is smells and tastes bad (even by Ocean Shores standards).
Lost dog
From Joan Baus of PAWS: Can you please send out a notice that we have a little lost dog in Ocean Shores. She was lost near the intersection of Ocean Shores Blvd. and Marine View Drive. Her name is Maggie Mae and she has very short legs like a Doxie or Basset Hound, a stocky body and a large boxy head. She is black and brown. She is very shy and afraid. She has a blue collar and a red leash. She will not come when called and will burrow in under bushes or decks or such. If anyone spots her, she is more trusting of men than women. People can call me, 289 9694 or Chuck our dog handler at 360 520 0787, or Deb Thomas-Blake at 589 0109. This dog was just adopted 2 days ago and has not bonded with her new people.
New councilor: Karen Carlisle
The owner of the Leather Place and former town clerk of Ruston was selected unanimously to finish Dave Creighton’s term. Council met for about 15 minutes before choosing her. She was selected over Marion Boenheim, John Schroeder and Bruce Leven. (The fifth applicant did not attend.) All gave brief presentations and answered questions.

Locals Only: And overtime for all!
Did you know the NFL, a collection of some of the most famous and richest athletes on the planet, does not have a union? With labor talks breaking down, the players strategically “decertified” their union.
What does that mean, exactly?
“An opening. For me,” says Angelo “The Spider” Biscotti, a union representative.
Mr. Biscotti is the point man of the Union Local 666, which represents the Toll Bridge Operators of Atlantis City. Though Atlantis City only has one toll bridge, The Spider tells me he represents 18 Toll Bridge Operators, who make an average of $75,000 per year. “Plus overtime,” he noted.
