Bruce: Watch TV on your computer
Not wasting quite enough time with your computer? Our tech columnist, North Beach computer guru Bruce Richardson, tells you how to watch TV on it:
Cable vs. Net
My last article, “X the DVD” spawned a series of interesting questions like “can we ditch Cable and just use a computer?” Well you can certainly watch TV or Movies on your computer, but I am not sure that most people would want to ditch their Cable.
First, let’s find out what you can get on your computer. The best place to get movies and TV shows is hulu.com. This is a free site although you may get some commercials at the beginning of a show. If you already use Netflix, you can watch movies and TV shows on your computer. You can also cruise your favorite network, CBS, NBC, ABC, SYFY, etc., and get content. Although it will not be ‘prime time’ content and it is usually not ‘live’. You can also actually hook your cable to a card for your PC. They run about $80.00. This works only if you have a large monitor.

Both basketball teams lose
The boys and girls basketball teams lost their playoff openers; both have win-or-done games Saturday.
Tigers 77, Hyaks 43
ROCHESTER — Napavine’s height disrupted North Beach’s offense and its ability to rebound during this opening round contest in the District IV 2B tournament.
The Tigers, the Central League champions, dominated the boards, according to North Beach coach Larry Moore, and had several chances per possession to score.
El Nino!
With much of the country getting buried (again) in snow, should we feel guilty about the following, from weather.com for our area?

Six North Beach wrestlers to State
North Beach High wrestlers Jennifer Law (repeating) and Dominic Deibel were champions yesterday, in the Regional tournament at Tacoma. They move on to next weekend’s State championship, as do Anthony Tignino, Robert Buck and the Reed brothers, Sawyer and Tyler. From Maynard Reed, the coach (and Sawyer and Tyler’s father):
“North Beach will be taking six wrestlers to state again this year.

High Surf + Thousands of Visitors
Big waves and surging sea, high tide approaching, sun breaks luring tourists out to the potentially dangerous spots like Damon Point and the Jetty; the latter is where a visitor broke his leg yesterday at high tide; today kids and adults are scampering all over the rocks, shrieking with delight at the big wave show.
National Weather Service alert:
A HIGH SURF ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM PST THIS EVENING.
SWELLS OF 20 TO 22 FEET ARE CURRENTLY BEING REPORTED BY THE COASTAL BUOYS THIS MORNING. THESE SWELLS WILL CONTINUE TO ROLL ONSHORE THROUGH THE DAY BEFORE GRADUALLY SUBSIDING OVERNIGHT AND MONDAY.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
A HIGH SURF ADVISORY MEANS THAT HIGH SURF WILL AFFECT BEACHES IN THE ADVISORY AREA… PRODUCING RIP CURRENTS AND LOCALIZED BEACH EROSION. ALSO… IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TO FISH OR OBSERVE WAVES FROM ROCKS DURING HIGH SURF CONDITIONS. UNWARY BEACH WALKERS CAN BE CAUGHT OFF GUARD AS WAVES SUDDENLY RACE FARTHER UP THE BEACH THAN NORMAL.
People Unclear on the Concept
“Wow, look at these great parking spaces!”
C’mon, people . . . do we go to Seattle and park on your new sidewalks?
Wave watcher breaks leg at Jetty
From the OSPD, injury today at the Jetty:
A 30 year-old Puyallup man suffered a broken leg when he was struck by a log at the North Jetty in Ocean Shores. At 12:20 PM, Ocean Shores Police and Fire personnel were advised a subject with a broken leg at the Jetty. Arriving emergency services personnel were told that the man had been walking on the jetty rocks, watching the large crashing waves, when a six foot log was tossed up onto the jetty by the surf and struck him in the leg causing him to fall from the rocks. The man was transported to Grays Harbor Community Hospital with a broken right leg.
Winter storms and high surf bring many visitors to the jetty area. On two occasions earlier in the day, the Ocean Shores Police had contacted groups of individuals on the jetty rocks advising them of the risks of the high surf, sneaker waves and the possibility of logs being thrown up on to shore. The Ocean Shores Police Department wants to remind all visitors that the beaches of the Pacific Northwest may be beautiful, but they can also be very dangerous. Rip currents, sneaker waves and the possibility of logs and debris being thrown up on to the beach is always a reason to use due caution when on the beaches. Sound advice is to stay off jetty rocks and never turn your back on the ocean.
