Support for Chickens
Dear Editor: We heard that some People are petitioning City Council to allow them to have Chickens in this City.
We would like to announce our full, unmitigated, 125 percent support for this fantastic idea.

Westport seal released in O.S.
Remember the seal pup that a couple visiting Westport found on the beach, and took back to their motel bathtub? The Seattle Times has the story on the seal’s rehabilitation and, two months later, release into the Ocean Shores bay. Over on this side, we know not to mess with the wildlife, right?
Spot the Typo
Dean Dingler takes photo, sends it to local newspaper, with info. Crystal Dingler sends more info. The work of Team Dingler goes in this week’s NCN . . . but something is missing. Can you figure out which word Bozo the Editor mistakenly deleted from the following? (All winners receive a free copy of the September Beach Approach, coming next week.) Here’s the “cutline” that appears in the paper:
One of the stars of last week’s Kids’ Pet show at the Library was Emerson, a 3-month-old, who belongs to Ashley Kretsch (17) and Rebekah Midbrod (5). Adorable photo of the adorable pet by Dean Dingler. Each of the 17 kids who participated received a new book. This was the 36th year the kids pet show has been held at the library.
PAC meeting today
The Promotions Advisory Committee (PAC) meets today at 3 p.m. at the Convention Center, to begin planning the advertising campaign for 2011. Using a percentage of hotel/motel taxes (NOT the General Fund), Ocean Shores typically spends $250,000 per year on advertising. In recent weeks, local businesses were contacted via email for input on the 2011 campaign.
Today’s agenda:
Local home sales info
Ocean Shores is Area 194 on the Northwest Multiple Listings Service report. This shows number of listings, pending sales, closed sales, new construction sales and condo sales. All have July monthly data, year-to-date, and comparisons with 2009. *Thanks to Tom Quigg for providing the info.
Things are better here
With prices falling sharply over last year, home sales in Ocean Shores have been fairly brisk. Not so for the rest of the nation, according to the big news of the day:
WASHINGTON (Reuters) – Sales of previously owned U.S. homes took a record drop in July to their lowest pace in 15 years, suggesting further loss of momentum in the economic recovery.
Moon shot
Yes, we have occasional clear nights out here, as Gary Iversen proves:
Street LID poll
Which of the following best describes the way you feel about the $44 million Street LID project, which repaved all of Ocean Shores:
a) We needed it, the job was well done, my payment is about what I expected
b) We need it, but the project is more expensive than it should have been
c) I strongly disagree with my “Special Benefits” assessment, and feel I am being asked to pay too much
d) Other (please specify)
