Salmon Bake

16 may decide Library vote
According to Vern Spatz, the Grays Harbor County Auditor, letters have been mailed to 16 Ocean Shores voters, informing them that they either did not sign their ballots, or have “signatures that do not match.” (“This means that when we checked the signature on the outside of the ballot envelope it did not match the one given us by the voter and imaged into our system.”)
These 16 have until Tuesday, Aug. 31, at 5 p.m., to respond. As of the last count, there were four more votes to “Approve” the .22 cent lid lift/levy for the Library than to reject the measure.
Street LID final assessment
Reprinting, for those who may have missed it: Here is a link to the spreadsheet showing the recommended Street LID charge for every Ocean Shores property. (Huge file, takes a while to download.) The date on the document, listed several times, is “Aug. 1, 2010.” It was not released to the public until Aug. 17.
Great O.S. video
Of the July 4 “50th birthday” party, at Ocean Shores’ Facebook page. Unfortunately, the cake at the Community Picnic looks like it will be the only 50th birthday event for the city. The video has prompted another round of “I love Ocean Shores!” comments from visitors, with memories both recent and way-back-when.

Hotel/Motel dip
After six consecutive months of increases, compared to 2009, the Ocean Shores Hotel/Motel tax for the month of May was down about 5% compared to 2009 ($54,152 in 2010, $56,095 in 2009). The good news: year-to-date is $327,142, up 9% over the same time frame in 2009.
Labs on the loose
This just in from a concerned reader: There appears to be a yellow lab and a black lab loose near the Community Center. They don’t seem to have collars and will not come to us. They are off and running again.
“Approve” lead is now 4 votes
After today’s tally, there are 1,068 votes to Approve the lid lift/levy of 22 cents for the Ocean Shores Library, with 1,064 votes to Reject. There could still be a few votes to count, if any of those informed of a questionable signatures reply by Aug. 31.
