Food Bank Thanksgiving/Christmas

There is nothing more satisfying for a food bank, than to be able to offer its clients Thanksgiving and Christmas food. Well, actually there is something just as satisfying – knowing that our community makes it possible to brighten the lives of those who need our support.

Yesterday was by all accounts a miserable day. The wind was howling, the rain was dancing off the gravel parking lot, and many of our clients were drenched to the skin. But, the happiness that grew out of a grocery bag of cranberry sauce, turkey, pumpkin pie and the other traditional fixins was enough to overcome all the harshness of the weather. Yesterday we served 230 families with the makings of a traditional Thanksgiving dinner and the volunteers were thrilled to be able to be a part of someone else’s holiday joy.

On December 22nd we’ll do it again – our traditional Christmas distribution of food. As always, we’ll be offering holiday groceries to our registered clients – those who have pre-registered for the groceries at a previous distribution. We shall also pre-register those clients who have not yet signed up for Christmas food, at our December 1st distribution. Pre-registering for the Christmas groceries allows us to know how much food we need to have on hand. And, of course – anyone in need of supplemental food should come to any one of our regular distributions on the 1st and 3rd Thursday of each month. All of us at the food bank wish you and yours the most joyful Christmas and holiday season.
