Work begins on garden pathway in Ocean Shores Blvd. median

The City of Ocean Shores Beautification Committee is sponsoring the creation of a garden pathway in the median on Ocean Shores Boulevard and Chance a la Mer and has invited the Ocean Shores Garden Buddies group to participate in the development of the project. The pathway connects to crosswalks on both ends of the median, which runs parallel to the Shilo Inn.

Dirt removed from the path was set aside for gardening bed material and berms. Plants removed from the pathway were repurposed into berms or replanted elsewhere. Several local artists are creating outdoor pieces for inclusion in the pathway.

Beautification Committee chairwoman Patricia Wright commented: “It’s very exciting to see the level of interest that has been created by this project. This is not being done by professionals or master gardeners. This is the community coming together to create something of their own. So many people just want to help. This is an ongoing project that doesn’t have a projected end because it is all based on donations of time and material. Bulbs and seeds will be planted this fall and more in the spring. Plants have been donated and more will be donated in the spring. Artwork will be created this winter and placed next year. One day we’ll look around and say ‘OK we can’t possibly do anymore.’ But until then we will just keep working.”
