OS Police make arrest in theft, burglary

Photos posted on Block Watch led to suspect vehicle

An investigation involving several different cases has resulted in the arrest of a 29-year old Ocean Shores man for theft and vehicle prowling.

Ocean Shores Police issued a news release Monday that said the investigation began with a post on the Ocean Shores Block Watch page on Facebook, asking for help in identifying a man who allegedly had stolen an electronic cigarette battery from the Union 76 station at Hogan’s Corner. The post included photographs of the suspect and his vehicle, and Ocean Shores officers began actively looking for the suspect.

On July 29, two vehicles were prowled in the parking lot of an Ocean Shores motel. Video surveillance captured what appeared to be the same suspect and vehicle involved in this crime, the news release said.

On Aug. 10, an Ocean Shores officer spotted the suspect vehicle parked in the 100 block of Sand Dune Ave. NW in Ocean Shores. Officers made contact with a female resident there, who denied a male matching the suspect description lived there and refused to let the officers look at the suspect vehicle.

The next day, a search warrant was obtained for the residence and the vehicle. Several stolen items were recovered, including the E-cigarette battery, one item taken from the motel parking lot, and a tool box stolen during a vehicle prowl in Oyehut that had not yet been reported to law enforcement.

The 29-year old suspect, who was indeed living at the residence, was arrested and interviewed, police said. He provided information leading to the recovery of more stolen property from the vehicle prowl in the motel parking lot. He was later booked in the Grays Harbor County Jail, and the Prosecutor’s Office will file appropriate charges after reviewing all the reports.
