Ocean Shores kidnapping, assault arrests; Weekly police call logs

The Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office is seeking information about a 35-year-old Hoquiam man whose body was found Sunday morning at the boat launch in the 1300 block of State Route 109.

A news release said deputies were dispatched to the boat launch about 9 a.m. Sunday after the body was discovered by a fisherman. With assistance from the State Patrol and state Department of Fish and Wildlife, the victim was identified as Andrew Detwiler of Hoquiam.

“Based on evidence at the scene, it was apparent that Detwiler was the victim of homicidal violence,” the news release said.

Detectives processed the scene for evidence throughout Sunday and the investigation continues, with an autopsy scheduled to determine the cause and manner of death.

Anyone with information on the investigation or the victim’s whereabouts on Sunday evening are asked to call Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office Detective Sergeant Darrin Wallace at (360) 964-1742 or Chief Criminal Deputy Brad Johansson at (360) 964-1723.

Three arrested for kidnapping/assult

Two Ocean Shores men, 46 and 25, and a 38-year-old Hoquiam man have been arrested in connection with a kidnapping and assault that occurred in July over a claim of stolen drugs at a Rain Street residence in Ocean Shores.

In a news release Aug. 9, the Grays Harbor Sheriff’s Office, Ocean Shores Police Department and the Grays Harbor Drug Task Force announced officers had completed the investigation into an incident that began on July 6. At that time, the news release said, the three suspects confronted a 27-year-old male victim at one of the suspect’s residences in Ocean Shores.

“The suspects believed the victim stole illegal drugs from them. The suspects confronted the victim about the missing drugs. The victim denied stealing anything from them. The suspects started beating the victim with their fists, feet and a wooden stick. The victim was pistol-whipped with a firearm. One of the suspects pointed the firearm at the victim several times threatening to kill him. The victim tried to escape the beating by attempting to run out of the residence,” the news release said.

The suspects were able to stop the escape and then tied the victim to a chair inside the residence, where they “continued to assault him, allegedly to get him to confess to stealing the drugs and give the drugs back to them, “according to the news release.

“The victim’s life was threatened several times. The victim was stabbed (in the) shoulder with a knife in an attempt to make him confess. The suspects attempted to move the victim to a different location, which allowed the victim to escape and flee on foot.”

The victim then ran to a nearby house, where the homeowner transported him to Grays Harbor Community hospital for treatment of his injuries. The victim then filed an Ocean Shores police report.

After obtaining a search warrant, detectives say they recovered evidence that is believed to be the victim’s blood, a pistol, knives, a wooden stick and a large amount of methamphetamine, heroin and cash.

The Sheriff’s Office, Ocean Shores Police, Grays Harbor Drug Task Force and the Aberdeen Police Department coordinated efforts to arrest all three suspects.

Sheriff’s Office Chief Criminal Deputy Brad Johansson said the search warrant was issued about two weeks after the crime was committed because “the victim was hesitant to report the crime out of fear of the suspects.”

One suspect was arrested on unrelated charges a few days before the warrant was served, and other was arrested the day the warrant was served, while the other arrest came about three days later when that suspect was located in Aberdeen.
