Comments due on new Marine Spatial Plan

Document governs potential commercial uses of marine resources.

A new draft of the Washington Marine Spatial Plan is available for public comment through Dec. 12, and the city of Ocean Shores has a link available on its website: www.osgov.com.

Mayor Crystal Dingler noted the Marine Spatial Plan is an important document that governs potential uses of ocean and Harbor marine resources for commercial purposes. “Essentially, it says that our marine area that they are discussing for other uses is more than adequately used now,” Dingler said of her assessment. “They don’t believe commercial uses will be successful without interfering with what we already have.”

It could allow the city, however, to use the ocean or wave and wind power to generate electricity for non-commercial purposes, Dingler said.
