The Coastal Interpretive Center is embarking on its first annual giving and awareness raising campaign. Not only will there be a letter going to supporters, but scattered across Ocean Shores from Nov. 20 to Dec. 20, will be small blue bins with little plush whales available for a small donation.

This time period has been designated as “Whale Tail Days.” The purpose is not only to raise money for the Center, but to also raise awareness in our local community about the Center and all that it does.

The Interpretive Center is more than a museum with exhibits about Coastal Washington. We are there to help you understand the coast. The Center’s mission is to “educate the public concerning natural and man-made environments through presentation of the history and ecology of Washington state’s coastal life.” This mission is accomplished in many ways: permanent and rotating exhibits explain the natural and cultural history; knowledgeable docents are available to help you understand what you found on the beach or in the woods; group tours work magic in the minds of young students; the Ecology Youth Program provides opportunities in the summer for youngsters to experience and learn first-hand about nature; summer crafts offer opportunities for crafty activities at the Center on Saturday afternoons; the Glimpses lecture series in the fall/winter gives our local community an opportunity to attend interesting presentations on various topics, etc., etc.

Help us celebrate Whale Tail Days and help support the Coastal Interpretive Center. Look for our letter requesting a donation and look for our blue bins in select locations across town (retail establishments, banks, restaurants, and hotels). Take a whale and leave a donation. These cute little whales will make an excellent stocking stuffer!
