Seahorse decked out by design

Recent move to Ocean Shores inspired desire to dress up iconic driftwood sculpture for the holidays

For the second consecutive year, the Ocean Shores Seahorse has had a festive look for the holiday season courtesy of Artistic Designs by Brenda.

The 35-foot tall driftwood sculpture is adorned with a garland sash wreathed around its structure, designed by Ocean Shores’ Brenda Dotson and carefully placed with help from the Ocean Shores Fire Department.

“I did it last year and then I just refurbished it. I made it so they could secure it pretty good and then made it a little bigger,” Brenda said. “And then the Fire Department put it up.”

Having just moved to Ocean Shores from Montana a year ago, Brenda thought her gift and decoration would be a good way to celebrate her new home town.

“I was approached about decorating it, and I just decided to donate it as my contribution for moving here,” she said.

Brenda said the garland “looked so big” on her floor as she began to design it, but doesn’t seem so huge on the seahorse. She made it so it could hook together. “It was actually fun to make,” she said.
