On the Beach: Valentine’s Day love to go around

By On the Beach Colunmist Daniela Werner

Ah February, the month of love. What were the lyrics to that song? ”What the world needs now is love, sweet love.”

The election is over, in a quite dramatic fashion to say the least. We’ve had marches and protests and riots. Solidarity and division. Speeches and briefings. And that doesn’t even include Twitter! We do need some sweet love. How fortunate are we to live in an area that is one of the most romantic getaways on the coast?

Visitors come to Ocean Shores looking for the perfect getaway and it does not disappoint. If you’re looking for a quiet cozy cabin, look no further than Snuggler’s Cove Resort. Located on the south end of town near Damon Point, these quaint beach cabins are perfect for shutting out the world and enjoying each other’s company. A great location for strolling on the beach, watching the sunset and listening to the waves. Give them a call (360) 590-2709.

Another beautiful place for a romantic weekend is The Judith Anne Inn with accommodations that are immaculate and updated and the location perfect. You can enjoy coffee in the morning on the patio and take in the view. Rooms include hot tubs and kitchens to create your own romantic dinner.

Looking for something different for dinner? Great news for sushi lovers. Mike’s Seafood now offers several beautiful choices in sushi. Colin and crew have been hard at work to provide fresh, authentic and beautifully crafted dishes. If you haven’t tried it yet, get in there and check out the remodel and the expanded menu. Give them a call to check winter hours and availability.

Another great addition to the restaurant choices here in Ocean Shores is Gustaso Italian. Their website entices with a description of “authentic Italian cuisine in a warm and intimate atmosphere. Enjoy a dining experience filled with savory dishes, freshly prepared and locally sourced. From pastas to our bruschetta, flatbread pizzas and one-of-a-kind soups and desserts.” I can tell you first hand it’s an accurate description.

Want to score some major Valentine’s Day points? Why not take your sweetheart to an event with wine, appetizers, music and shopping? Visit the Premier evening of the Ocean Shores Renewed Antique Show. Antique and vintage enthusiasts, a private opportunity to view the event while listening to the fine sounds of Paul Bouma and strolling with a glass of wine. Light appetizers will be included. Tickets include a weekend pass to come and go at your leisure. Tickets may be purchased at the Dusty Trunk or at the Visitors Information Center at the Ocean Shores Convention Center.

Always a fun evening is Galway Bay’s “Valentines with Sinatra” event. A four-course dinner and a tribute to Sinatra show. Dinner service begins at 6 p.m. with entertainment beginning at 7 p.m. Call for reservations as this event always sells out.

Maybe your Valentine’s Day is a family affair, a day spent reading cards brought home from school in handmade mailboxes. Making crafts on the kitchen counter or baking a special dessert for the family.

However you celebrate, get out there and spread some love, sweet love. It’s what the world needs now.
