Stage West Community Theatre in Ocean Shores on Friday will debut its latest production, “An Evening With Ethel And Albert,” a comedy based on a 1940s radio program that became the first situation comedy on television in the ‘50s.

The play will run at 7 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, March 23-24 and March 30-31, with 2 p.m. matinees on Sunday, March 25 and Saturday, March 31. All performances are at the Ocean Shores Lions Club, 832 Ocean Shores Blvd. NW.

Director Lori Hardin said “Ethel and Albert” offers stories that “follow an average married couple through the frustrations and laughs of everyday life.” It is presented as three acts, entitled, “Fishing Hat,” “To Open, Pry Cover,” and “The Neglected Husbands Sewing Club.”

“We know our audiences will love the simple truths found in each story,” Hardin said. “They are funny because they are universal and true!”

The local theater group welcomes back to the stage Dr. Stacy Steele as Ethel Arbuckle, Rich Smith as Albert Arbuckle, Anna Frazier as Dottie, Eric Bjella as Fred, Sally Mapile as Mrs. Brown, and Bill Young as Mr. Brown.

“We are thrilled to welcome several new faces to our stage,” Hardin added. They are Jay Dalton as Joe, Connie Blaze as Edith, Scott Wilson as George and Meta Wood as Grace.

After more than 20 years of teaching pretty much all aspects of theater, most recently at Miler Jr. High in Aberdeen, Dalton retired in 2016. He said the play “has been a nice way to get back on the stage myself. I’m enjoying it very much.”

Blaze brings experience as a paid radio talent, as well as school and community theatre. “This is a fabulous group to work with,” she said. “I’m having a blast!”

Wilson retired and moved to the beach from Issaquah late last summer, in search of “less traffic and more ocean.” He explained that he wanted to get involved locally and saw a notice for auditions for the play, that read “no experience necessary. I was highly qualified in that respect,” he grinned.

Tickets are available in Ocean Shores at Delores & Fay’s, Mocha Madness, Ocean Shores Animal Hospital, the Visitors Information Center in the Ocean Shores Convention Center, online at www.stagewestcommunitytheatre.org and at the door.
