The Renewed Antique Show fills the Ocean Shores Convention Center with vintage merchandise and fresh ideas this weekend, starting with a premiere party from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday evening. The event continues Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The $14 premiere ticket brings music from Paul Bouma, hors d’oeuvres and beverages, admission for all three days, and perhaps most importantly, a first chance at the unusual, often unique items the vendors have brought. Tickets are available at the Visitors Information Center in the west side of the Convention Center, and at The Dusty Trunk, 759 Pt. Brown Ave, NW.

Regular admission Saturday and Sunday is $3, or $2 with a non-perishable food donation, which will go to the Ocean Shores Food Bank.

“Unlike more traditional crafts fairs, this event has a whole lot of booths with one-of-a-kind things,” said Dianne Hansen, who is also known as The Event Planner.

She explained that, as trends in antiques and collectibles are ever-evolving, so too is the focus of the long-established annual event. “Antique blending, decorating by using antiques and modern elements together,” is breathing new life into the scene, she said. “Sometimes color is the blend, sometimes materials make the blend, sometimes it involves a story and creating memories that are also pieces of décor.”

The show offers a mix of popular returning vendors, new merchants and local non-profits. Favorites such as collectible glassware, vintage jewelry and Nurse Nancy’s Doll Hospital will be joined by newcomers with merchandise including Czech art glass, repurposed old furniture, ‘60s and ‘70s memorabilia, vintage pyrex and old flatware “upcycled” into jewelry.

The event traditionally includes a fun fashion show; this year’s is “Politically Incorrect Furs,” at 2 p.m. Saturday.

Also back by popular demand are antique evaluations, in a different format. Hansen explained that people bringing items to be evaluated should stop by the Information & Evaluations booth in the lobby. From there, they will be sent to the vendors whose areas of expertise best fits their items.
