Great weather for bikers
If you think O.S. overpays . . .
BELL, Calif. — The City Council in Bell, a blue-collar suburb of Los Angeles, on Thursday met to ask three administrators whose salaries total more than $1.6 million to resign or face possible firing.
The officials include Chief Administrative Officer Robert Rizzo, who earns $787,637 a year — nearly twice the pay of President Obama, who earns $400,000 — for overseeing one of the poorest towns in Los Angeles County.
The others are Assistant City Manager Angela Spaccia, who makes $376,288 a year, and Police Chief Randy Adams, whose annual salary of $457,000 is 50 percent more than that of Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck.
Rizzo was hired at an annual salary of $72,000 a year in 1993, and the council rapidly increased that amount over the years. His most recent raise boosted his salary more than $84,000 a year.

Library levy is a “lid lift”
The term “lid lift” has not been used on the Library issue, as city officials say that last year with the EMS lid lift vote, people got it confused with the Street LID. But the Ocean Shores Library levy vote is another “lid lift,” meaning 50.1 percent of the vote is needed to pass. (Timberland’s 2009 levy vote was also a lid lift). If the Library levy passes, it means voters OK “lifting” the current $2.09 per thousand to $2.31 per thousand. Here is how the Washington State Department of Revenue web site explains what a lid lift is:
Q. How do levy lid lifts affect property taxes?
Local taxing districts can propose that voters “lift” the 1 percent limit on annual levy increases so the district can collect a higher levy rate, up to the maximum rate for that jurisdiction.
