Changes coming soon
In the last week or so, a few folks have been blatantly disregarding the “comment policy” with their off-topic, conversational, insulting, offensive and/or otherwise inappropriate comments. Someone with way-too-much time on his/her hands apparently thinks it’s “cute” to pretend to be someone else. As one (rightfully) disgusted, legitimate commenter said this morning: “Have you considered barring those that can’t seem to post a civil comment or have to resort to name-calling in order to express themselves?”
Answer: Yes. The way the system is currently set up, I don’t believe that is possible. But that will change soon, even if this site has to be temporarily shut down. Or even permanently, if the “problems” can’t be fixed.
Once again, an excerpt from the comment policy:

Clam dig?
OLYMPIA – Rising marine toxin levels have prompted the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) to cancel a razor clam dig scheduled at Long Beach and delay final decisions about digs at Twin Harbors, Copalis and Mocrocks beaches until next week.Olympic National Park will also wait until next week to decide on a dig at Kalaloch Beach, pending the results of further biotoxin testing.
Previous plans for a dig starting late next week were put on hold after routine testing found elevated levels of paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) in clams collected on coastal beaches, said Dan Ayres, WDFW coastal shellfish manager.
PSP is a marine toxin produced by a certain type of algae that can cause paralysis and even death if consumed in sufficient quantities.
Love them or hate them . . .
Don’t think you’ll find too many folks in this town who think Dave Creighton and Rich McEachin are both great guys. Nor many who will agree with both of their versions of 2007, in this week’s NCN.
In any case, appreciation to both for going “on the record” and shedding light into an unforgettable year; good, bad or ugly, there was much happening, in 2007.
Next week: McEachin Talks, Part II. Some great details, and answer to the question, “Why does the headline say ‘He did it his way’?”
Bruce: X your DVD
A recent Bruce Richardson column, on computers/technology:
Game Console?
I have an old ‘component’ set up at my house. You have probably had one at some time and may still have one. It contains the amplifier, the DVD player, the video tape player (yikes! Is that dating me), surround sound system, all hooked up to the television. Recently, my DVD player broke and was beyond repair (those old buttons wouldn’t work anymore).
This year, I replaced my DVD player with an Xbox 360.
I know what you are thinking, because I used to feel the same way: spend $300.00 for a game console? I can’t justify spending money to play games!

Update on bank robber, hit-and-run
Russ Fitts, Dep. Chief of the Ocean Shores Police Dept., says the suspect in this week’s bank robbery “was a white male. It was almost impossible to tell but witnesses remembered one small area on his body that flesh showed and it was light complected. Also he was last seen on the northwest corner of Pt. Brown and Ocean Shores Blvd and heading westbound on Ocean Shores Blvd on the north side in the direction of the Days Inn.
Additionally, his clothing now is described as a dark blue hooded rain jacket and not a hooded sweatshirt, dark baseball hat with light colored bill, blue jeans and tan slip on shoes.
“No other info.
“We are still looking for witnesses to the possible accident that occurred on in front of Cadillac Jack’s around 10 pm on Tuesday. The victim is still in Harborview.”

Name that bird
Gary Iversen (his excellent 2010 calendar is now on sale at the Chamber of Commerce office for $12.95) wasn’t sure what kind of swimming birds he photographed, the other day. First one to post the correct answer gets free admission for two to the Interpretive Center (Walter has already given me the correct answer):
